Regensberg – castle and fortified village

Last sunday I was with my older son out for a walk to take some pictures. He wanted to go to “this castle on a hill” he planned to visit long ago but didn’t knew where exactly is was… 🙂 . Based on his description there was only one possibility: Regensberg. My son owns a DSLR but unfortunately rarely uses it – the rivalry of the ubiquitous Mobile phone is too tempting. But today we both grab our cameras and were heading to Regensberg.

Regensberg

The village and the castle are located on the foothills of a mountain named “Lägern” with stunning panoramic views over the “Surbtal” and the “Zürcher Unterland”. The spot is a real insider’s tip and in combination with of a hike on the Lägern very recommendable.

The first buildings on this location are dated from 1040. To enjoy the panoramic view from above the tower the obolus of CHF 1.- is worth to pay.

Our break in the guesthouse “Kurt” near the entrance of the village was clearly more expensive. For a coffee, a softdrink an two pieces of dust-dry and not very tasty carrot pie we had to pay CHF 23.-…

The fountain behind the entrance of the village.

Regensberg

The upper side of the village, known as “Oberburg”. Nicely restored and inhabited. I suspect the rent is not a bargain…

The mansion of the castle resp. a nice detail from..

Another view to the “Oberburg” with the old fountain and a historic canon..

The view to South-West with some buildings of the “Unterburg” and the vineyards. The next picture was taken from the street in the left upper corner (by the trees).
